EMERGENCY AID FOR OUR OWN AFTER RAGING WILDFIRES AND HURRICANE STORMS

As part of our company’s commitment to giving back to our communities, we ensure we are also there for our own employees in times of need. The state of Texas has faced two separate natural disasters in recent years that demonstrate the goodwill of our employees for our coworkers and communities.

In 2011, when an area of central Texas was hit by devastating wildfires, thousands were left homeless. In the space of a month, the fires destroyed 1,645 homes and burned 34,068 acres. Fortunately, our processing facility in Bastrop, Texas was not damaged, but some of our workers from the site lost their homes to the fire. Our company and employees from around the nation pulled together, donating truckloads of goods and perishables and over $45,000 in cash donations to help their co-workers and others in the community.

In 2017, hurricane Harvey hit the Texas coast and decided to stay a while, dumping more than 27 trillion gallons of rain over Texas, making Harvey the wettest Atlantic hurricane ever measured up to that time. Our Houston plant survived undamaged, but some employees were not so lucky. A Go Fund Me account was set up, with a matching corporate donation, raising over $20,000 for our Darling families. Many individual employees contributed to community aide funds as well.

BEING A GOOD NEIGHBOR MEANS MORE THAN JUST LIVING CLOSE BY. WE ARE CLOSELY TIED TO OUR LOCAL COMMUNITY, CONTRIBUTING TO A BETTER OUTLOOK FOR THOSE LEFT HOMELESS BY COMING TOGETHER AS A COMPANY – FOR BOTH OUR EMPLOYEES AND THE COMMUNITY. IT WAS SIMPLY THE RIGHT THING TO DO.
